The City of Cherbourg-Octeville, is the prefecture of Manche department, at the north of the Cotentin Peninsula, in Lower-Normandy Region. Originally just Cherbourg, it was formed when the city absorbed Octeville in the year 2000. Cherbourg-Octeville holds an arsenal of the French Navy.
